Perched among the majestic mountains of Baja California Sur, this private villa establishes a dialogue between the rugged landscape and the contemporary elegance of an architecture designed to blend seamlessly into its natural surroundings. Here, lighting becomes a silent yet key role player thanks to the innovative approach and state-of-the-art technology adopted by Buzzi & Buzzi, who has been highly adept in enhancing the pure project design of the villa without ever overstepping the boundaries in terms of essence.
The villa is designed on two levels connected by ramps that appear to be floating in space. Each element of the house is designed to highlight the panoramic sea view, whilst ensuring the privacy and intimacy given by the transparent window elements. The outdoor terraces blend perfectly within the marine desert environment thanks to a level of lighting skilfully orchestrated with S1 outdoor projectors featuring an unobtrusive fastening plate and adjustable rod. The possibility to achieve a rotation of 360° on the horizontal axis, means that the S1 fixtures enhance every detail of the spaces with accurate and consistent beams of light, making the outdoor experience so attractive, also at sunset.
In the open and airy living areas, the Taurus lighting fixtures highlight works of art with outstanding precision. This indoor fixture, with a Coral® recess and removable spotlight, stands apart thanks to its flexibility and its ability to adapt to the project demands. Thanks to the directional and interchangeable features of the lenses, Taurus delivers an accurate and consistent light, while its minimalist design provides a discreet illumination, that never crosses the boundaries of the architectural space.
Buzzi & Buzzi products were selected for their ability to integrate perfectly within the architecture without distracting attention from the natural elements and design of the house. The recovered teak ceilings, which add warmth to the rather austere surfaces, welcome the Twin Genius Naked lighting fixtures, a solution that so proficiently embodies the Buzzi & Buzzi philosophy. This AirCoral® fully concealed recessed lighting fixture is designed specifically for drywall or brick ceiling installations, and boasts an impeccable design: the two emission holes of just 20 mm in diameter disappear completely when switched off, preserving the aesthetic consistency of the surfaces.
When switched on, Buzzi & Buzzi's products, generate bright cones of light with a distinct volume, interrupting the darkness and enhancing the natural textures of the interior. What's more, the push-pull mechanics of the electrical fitting only requires simple and swift maintenance, bestowing a level of technical functionality that lives up to the project design.
“Our work for this villa represents both a challenge and a celebration. We wanted light to become a discreet yet key presence: an element that interacts with the architecture and nature, remaining simultaneously invisible and absolute”, state Dario and Andrea Buzzi.
With its combination of contemporary elegance, natural materials and invisible technology, this project becomes a manifesto of the art of lighting by Buzzi & Buzzi: a lighting fixture capable of managing the space without attempting to steal the show.
A fine example of a contemporary home, where nature and architecture interact with a fluent exchange of indoor and outdoor spaces. Designed in 2020 by Ponce de León Barragan Arquitectos, it embraces a design that blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces: large completely concealed sliding windows turn the home into an open pavilion immersed in the landscape.
"The biggest obstacle to overcome was the design on mountainous, rocky terrain, whilst ensuring that every space took advantage of the breathtaking views without forsaking the privacy or intimacy demanded by the owners" says Arturo Ponce de Leon. "The fact that the home complied with both these aspects was key to its ability to function both as a private place and also as a space dedicated more towards hospitality."
